Internship Insight: Bria Jacobs

Bria on OCEARCH boat

When did your internship start? It started in May and will end in December.

Why did you choose to intern with OCEARCH? I am a Communications major, but I have always had a huge love for nature and science. I was presented with the opportunity to apply for the OCEARCH Communications Internship and jumped onto this opportunity as this is exactly the job I was searching for. I began to do research on OCEARCH and learned how inspiring the organization was to me.

What have you been doing during your internship at OCEARCH? At the beginning of the summer, I started the process of taking over OCEARCH’s social media platforms. Working under Paige Finney has been the most amazing experience. I have created, edited and posted multiple social media posts, created blog posts and content calendars, conducted  monthly data analysis reports and photographed events.

What have you learned this summer? I have gained much growth and learned all about OCEARCH and the amazing work they do with the goal of restoring the abundance of the ocean.

Would you recommend participating in an internship to your fellow students? If so, why? I would recommend to my fellow students to reach for the stars and apply for many different internships; not only for the great experiences, but for the networking, the growth and to see what they like or dislike for their future careers. You have to start the path somewhere and by starting mine, I know exactly what I want to do.
