MS SLP in Grenada

During this spring break program, students will provide clinical services to children and families in Grenada.  Students will travel with their faculty leads and work in school-based and early intervention settings.  They will conduct evaluations and screenings, provide treatment, and conduct caregiver and teacher training sessions during this fieldwork   They will directly engage with children, educators, and caregivers. Clinical supervision will be provided by faculty and students will receive 20-25 clinical hours.   Students will have the opportunity to participate in an IPE/IPP event where they share what a speech-language pathologist's role is with nursing and education students at a local institution.

This experiential learning trip will include exploration of how therapy services are provided in a developing country.  Students will learn how the field of speech-language pathology varies in different countries and how U.S. service models need to be adapted.  A strong focus on continuity of care and sustainability will be included to support the children and families of Grenada by working with SLP graduate students from an other university that will be traveling to Grenada later in the year. Caregiver coaching models will be utilized through the lens of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
