Scholarships for Study Abroad

JU is proud to offer a variety of study abroad programs, and understands the importance of scholarships to help fund your international experience. Below you will find both internal and external scholarship resources, however, this list is not exhaustive! You may certainly apply for other scholarships not listed on this page, but please discuss them with the Office of Study Abroad & Away first before applying.

JU Scholarships

Experiential Learning Scholarship

  • $500, $1,000, and $1,500 awards available
  • Application Deadline: February 7, 2025

External Scholarships

Fund for Education Abroad

  • FEA invests in deserving U.S. undergraduates who are least likely to study abroad. More than 100 volunteer reviewers read applications each cycle. In partnership with them, we consider financial need, demographic factors, and academic plan and preparedness to decide our scholarship recipients.
  • Application Deadline for Spring 2025 Programs: September 18, 2024

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

  • The Gilman Program broadens the student population that studies and interns abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. To be eligible, applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship.
  • Application Deadline for programs starting between May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026: Thurdsday, March 6, 2025.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship

  • The Gilman Program broadens the student population that studies and interns abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints.
  • To be eligible, applicants must:
    • A dependent (child or spouse) of active or activated United States military personnel at the time of application.
    • A recipient of any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving Title IV federal financial aid during their study abroad program or internship.
  • Application Deadline for programs that start between February 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025 is Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

  • GPA requirement of 3.75 or higher.
  • One hundred twenty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.
  • Application Deadline for programs beginning sometime between May 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026: March 15, 2025.

World Affairs Council of Jacksonville Ambassador Marilyn McAfee Scholarship

  • The scholarships (up to $8,000.00) are designed to recognize and encourage students enrolled at Edward Waters University, Flagler College, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Jacksonville University or the University of North Florida whose academic program and/or future interests include pursuing a career in international business, public policy, foreign affairs or military service.
  • GPA requirement of 3.0 or higher.
  • Application for 2025 will open in January 2025.
