What is a Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing?
A DEMSN is a program designed for individuals who hold a non-nursing bachelor's degree and wish to transition into the nursing field. It provides an accelerated pathway to becoming a registered nurse (RN) while also earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.

An MSN degree opens doors to advanced practice roles, such as nurse practitioner, clinical nurse leader, nurse educator, or healthcare administrator. It also prepares individuals for leadership positions and further academic pursuits, such as doctoral programs.

What is the difference between the cohorts?
The DEMSN is an accelerated program that prepares students to enter the nursing profession as bedside nurses, sit for the NCLEX licensure exam, and obtain a Master of Science in Nursing degree. Unlike ABSN programs, which award a second Bachelor’s degree, the DEMSN program awards a Master’s degree. 

Are there clinicals? Where will they be?
Yes, clinicals will be held at various local hospital systems. Jacksonville University maintains partnerships with top hospitals and health organizations like Mayo Clinic, Baptist Health, Ascension St. Vincent's, and more.

How much does the program cost? Are scholarships available?
The DEMSN program costs $80,000. While there are no specific scholarships currently available, the program offers cost savings by combining the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees into one program. For available scholarships, please visit our scholarships page.

Can I work during the program?
It is not recommended that students work while actively enrolled in this program due to the intensive nature of the coursework.

What is the progression of the program? How many credits per semester?
Students take 13-17 credits per semester, depending on the term. The progression spans Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters.

Do I have to be on campus every day of the week?
Yes, students should plan to be on campus Monday through Friday.

Have I met my prerequisites? Where can I complete them?
If you have questions about whether you’ve met the prerequisites, please submit your official transcripts for evaluation. An admissions counselor will be able to assist you after transcripts have been submitted. Prerequisites can be completed at Jacksonville University or any accredited college or university.

When will I sit for the NCLEX exam to obtain my RN license?
Once all coursework has been completed and when your degree has been conferred.
