Graduate Nursing Awards and DNP Hooding Ceremony

The Keigwin School of Nursing celebrates the accomplishments of its graduate nursing students in this special one-of-a-kind event held in the beautiful Terry Concert Hall.  Surrounded by esteemed graduate nursing faculty and distinguished guests, our outstanding students will be recognized and celebrated in this intimate ceremony. 

 Students to be recognized in the ceremony:

• Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Graduates – Graduating doctoral students will be recognized for the achievement of a terminal degree. DNP graduates will be hooded by their DNP faculty chair on stage.
• Awards Winners – Outstanding students are recognized from each cognate along with select scholarship recipients. Students are notified in advance.
• Post Graduate Certificate Graduates – Student graduating with their post graduate certificate will be called on stage and recognized.

*Note: Post Graduate Certificate Students do not participate in the university Commencement Ceremony

DNP graduates, Award Winners, and Post Graduate Certificate students must RSVP to participate.  Please include an estimated number of guests you will bring.

Are Tickets Required?

At this time, we do not anticipate requiring tickets.  We ask participants to RSVP with the number of guests they will invite.  We will keep a close eye on the total guests and if it exceeds the capacity of the venue then the ceremony would become a ticketed event.

Attire

• DNP Graduates wear graduation regalia over dressy / business clothes.
• Award Winners and Post Graduate Certificate Graduates wear dressy / business clothes.

Important Ceremony Instructions

• All Students
  • There will be a photographer to photograph your special moment. A link will be emailed after the ceremony to graduates.
  • There are no tickets required for guests. The auditorium is general admission.  We ask you limit your guests to 10.
  • If you have a guest that needs wheelchair accommodations, please email your adviser at least 72 hours before the event.
  • Strollers will not be allowed in the auditorium. Please advise your guests.
• DNP Students only
  • Arrive at 3:45 pm, the ceremony starts at 4:30 pm
  • DNP students wear your doctoral regalia. Ladies we recommend flat shoes.
  • Prior to the event, hang up your gown (it will be wrinkled).
  • Check in at the lobby.
  • You will be lined up by your assigned seat and will process into the ceremony in order.
  • DNP graduates will sit on stage.
  • When it is time to hood the DNP students, there will be a moderator to lead you through this process. You will be hooded in the order you are seated.        
  • Students who have already defended and graduated will be announced as Doctor.
  • Students who have not defended will be announced as Doctoral Candidate.
