Position Summary

Jacksonville University invites applications for a one year, non-renewable Visiting Assistant Professor position in Psychology. The area of concentration is open, with strong preference given to candidates who can teach courses in health psychology or physiological psychology. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in psychology. A completed master’s degree or higher in psychology is required prior to the start of the appointment (August 2023).

The Psychology Department has approximately 165 majors, 40 minors, and 5 full-time faculty members, so faculty teach a wide range of courses. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester, which may include Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Health Psychology, Physiological Psychology or a course in the candidate’s general area of expertise. We especially welcome candidates who can broaden the range of courses we offer on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Will teach four courses per semester, which may include Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Health Psychology, Physiological Psychology, or a course in the candidate’s general area of expertise.

  • The ability to incorporate technology into classroom teaching and to teach online and hybrid classes
  • The ability to supervise and conduct research and supervise student research in area of expertise

  • Excellent oral and written skills

  • The ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and scientific equipment
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Ph.D. in Psychology preferred. A minimum of a master’s degree in psychology is required.
