  • Engineering Orientation course students went on a field trip to KLS Martin on September 26, 2017.
  • Nicole Buczkowski got student scholarship sponsored by the Florida Engineering Society in 2017 spring.
  • Mechanical engineering seniors Nicole Buczkowski, Christian Carter, Harrison Clark, Kyle Crews, Michelle Espinal and junior Julie Summers presented their project “An Assistant to Firefighting: Drone Design” work at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC), Boca Racon, Florida, February 24-25, 2017 and at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), Memphis, Tennessee, April 6-8, 2017.
  • Dr. Selvi gave a presentation about “Technological Challenges of Space Colonization” at 7th Annual Cross-Disciplinary Panel Discussion, Jacksonville University, March 9th, 2017.
  • Dr. Javaid presented her research paper with title “Studying human haptic communication in a realistic setting - challenges and opportunities” at IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (ROMAN), 2017.
  • Dr. Javaid attended Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Region D Conference, March 2017, Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Engineering students took part in LEGO education session at Fort Caroline Elementary School in Jacksonville during JU Charter Day, April 7th, 2017.
  • Trenton Hasty, and Madison Shelly, presented their senior design project titled with “Sampling Fish: Wirelessly acquiring data from a water body,” at the 31st Annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), Memphis, Tennessee, April 6-8, 2017.Dr. Wang participated in the ABET Symposium (self-study report workshop), April 19-21, 2017, Baltimore, MD.
  • Dr. Selvi presented JU engineering projects at Florida STEM and Health Expo, River City Science Academy, Jacksonville, FL, May 20th, 2017.
  • Dr. Javaid attended Project-Based Learning (PBL) workshop at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), June 21-24, 2017, Worcester, MA.
  • Drs. Wang, and Selvi presented their paper titled with “WIP: The Impacts of Project-Based Service Learning on Students’ Professional Identities and Career Readiness”, at the 2017 ASEE annual conference, Columbus, OH, June 25-28, 2017.
  • Drs. Wang, Selvi and Javaid presented the poster titled with “NSF S-STEM, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics Scholars”, at the 2017 ASEE annual conference, Columbus, OH, June 25-28, 2017.
  • Trenton Hasty presented his paper titled “Hand Movement Tracking Using Gaming Devices”at the 31st Annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), Memphis, Tennessee, April 6-8, 2017. 
  • Drs. Javaid and Selvi gave presentation at Mandarin’s Oak Elementary School to two sessions of Elementary School kids about engineering on May 8th, 2017.
  • Dr. Javaid presented JU projects at the exhibit of Sunshine State Scholars Program on May, 19th, 2017 at Orlando, FL.
  • Four mechanical engineering seniors presented their senior design work at advisory board meeting (contact Dr. Selvi)
  • Dr. Selvi participated in the AAC&U PKAL STEM Leadership Institute (2017 Summer), Baltimore, MD.
  • Dr. Wang (Co-PI working with Drs. Kathleen Kavanagh, and Judith Wingate) received an external three-year grant from the Riverside Hospital Foundation and Cascone Family foundation to design and develop a FITMAN manikin for the nursing education.
  • Precious Faniyi got an internship at JEA in summer 2017.
  • Chris Morgan got an internship at Northrup Grumman in summer 2017.
  • Madison Shelly got an internship at Stellar in summer 2017.
  • Jacksonville University hosted FTC Chassis Build, Design, and Program Workshop given by FTC Team Saturn, July 29-30, 2017. Engineering faculty and staff helped with the organization of the event.
  • Jacksonville University hosted FLL Getting Started Workshop given by RenaissanceJAX, July 29th, 2017.

  • Jacksonville University hosted NEFL Regional Championship of FIRST Tech Challenge, January 23rd, 2016. Several engineering students and faculty volunteered in the event.
  • Five Engineering students (Chris Beachler, Adam Hurdis, Weston Miller, Jon Maywood, Travis Pulliam) presented at JU symposium 2016. 
  • Dr. Javaid gave a talk titled “Haptics Technology and Educational Games” at Science and Engineering Lecture Series (SELS), March 10, 2016, Jacksonville, FL.
  • Dr Wang participated in IEEE Haptics Symposium 2016 in April in Philadelphia, PA.
  • Dr. Selvi presented JU engineering projects at Florida STEM and Health Expo, River City Science Academy, Jacksonville, FL, May 21st, 2016.
  • Dr. Wang participated in the AAC&U Integrative Learning and the Departments (2016 Summer), Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois.
  • Kyle Crews got an internship at Advantus Corporation in summer 2016.
  • Dr. Selvi presented his paper titled “Experiences in Teaching Writing Unit Design Courses to Engineering Students with Advanced Rube Goldberg Projects” at the 2016 ASEE annual conference, New Orleans, LA, June 26-28, 2016. 
  • Dr Wang attended ABET advanced assessment training workshop in April in Fort Lauderdale. 
  • Dr Wang served as a NSF panelist. 
  • ​​Three engineering students (Yanni Cacho, Ted Clark and Michelle Espinal) served as judges at Mathcount 2016 at the University of North Florida (UNF).
  • Trenton Hasty, a junior in Electrical Engineering, presented the research progress on hands-free manipulation of virtual structures at National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2016) held at Asheville, North Carolina.​ 
  • Drs. Selvi and Javaid served as judges and referees at local FIRST robotics competitions.
  • Dr. Javaid’s research paper with title, “ToothPIC: An Interactive Application for Teaching Oral Anatomy,” was published in IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 9(2): 184-189 (2016).
  • Dr. Javaid gave a talk on the topic, “Teaching Focused Faculty Position Search at Community Colleges, Liberal Arts Institutes and Research Universities,” at Society of Women Engineers National Conference (WE16), October 26-29, 2016. Philadelphia, PA
  • Engineering Orientation course students went on a field trip to Applications Engineering Group Inc., November 15th, 2016.

2015​

  • Dr. Javaid presented her research on using pressure sensors to identify manipulation actions during human physical interaction in 24th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN 2015). The research work was also published in the conference proceedings.
  • Engineering students Devin Pappas and Bryam Duque presented at FCHC in Miami in February 2015.
  • Dr. Javaid's research on development of an interactive application for teaching oral anatomy (ToothPIC) got accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies.​
  • Dr Wang got a patent granted in December, USPTO 9208662.
  • Drs Wang and Selvi visited ​Bishop Kenny High school introduced our NSF supported MEPS Program in Spring Break
  • Dr Selvi and Javaid served as referees at FIRST robotics competitions. 
  • Dr Wang received two EPIC grants collaborating with Marine Science, Geography, and Kinesiology departments. 
  • Engineering Department attended Jacksonville One-Spark 2015 showing our 3D printed products. 
  • Engineering Department got a two-extruder 3D printer supported by the EPIC grant. We aim to manufacture more complicated hollow structures.
  • Engineering Student Adam Hurdis got a JU Undergraduate Research Grant collaborating with another two students from Chemistry Department. They plan to optimize the fabrication process of a smart material called Ionic Polymer Metallic Composite. 
  • Dr Wang presented the paper titled with "Self-tuning parts in an Erhu instrument using shape memory alloys" at SPIE Smart Structures/NDE 2015 in March in San Diego, CA.
  • John Leong gave a presentation about "An information indicator based on two-way shape memory alloys (SMAs)" at SPIE Smart Structures/NDE 2015 in San Diego, CA.
  • Six engineering students (Devin Pappas, John Leong, Bryam Duque, Chris Beachler, Weston Miller and Jonathan Maywood) will attend NCUR 2015 to present three projects.
  • Dr Wang and two students gave a class at Episcopal Elementary School in May..
    Dr Wang and two students visited Callahan Library in June to introduce several engineering products and our engineering department. 
  • Engineering faculty Dr Wang and Dr Huang (Chemistry Department) got a JU Research grant (2015-2016). They collaborated to work on the fabrication of an Ionic Polymer Metallic Composite.
  • Dr Wang and four engineering students served as judges at NE FL Regional ​​Science and Engineering Fair 2015. 
  • Dr Wang presented engineering projects at FL ​STEM and Health EXPO 2015 in May ​at River City ​Science Academy. 
  • Dr Wang attended AAC&U PKAL Summer Leadership Institute in July in Maryland. 
  • Engineering Orientation course students went on a field trip to JEA Brandy Branch Power Station, October 13th, 2015. 
  • Dr Wang attended ABET fundamental assessment workshop in October in Dallas TX.

  • Drs Wang and Lane visited ​Bishop Kenny High school introduced our NSF supported MEPS Program in Spring Break.  
  • The vice president of NSPE Nicole Buczkowski attended the FES Leadership Conference in 2014 summer.
  • Four Engineering students (Devin Pappas, John Leong, Stephen Cowan, and Max Orozco) presented their papers at JU symposium 2014. 
  • Devin Pappas gave a presentation at SPIE Smart Structures/NDE 2014 about 'Haptics using a smart material for eyes-free interaction in personal devices'.
  • Devin Papppas served a judge at Mathcount 2014 at the University of North Florida.

  • Engineering program got free samples of dry Ionic Polymer Metal Composite for Haptics application from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan.
  • Engineering program and Physics department got a 3D printer this semester.
  • Bryam Duque's abstract about 'A Flexible and Hands Free Control Support for Mobile Devices based on Shape Memory Alloy' was accepted by NCUR 2014.
