Job Summary

The Department of Media Arts in conjunction with the Department of Computer Sciences, announce a vacancy for the position of Assistant Professor of Game Design and Development. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment position as Assistant Professor of Game Design and Development. Appointment is to begin 1 August 2024.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Candidate will serve as a faculty member for the undergraduate program and will teach required courses in the program, including Game Design, Game Strategies, Game Development, Game Levels and Interfaces, and Advanced Game Production.
  • Implementing new curriculum and developing innovative elective classes.
  • Cultivating internship opportunities
  • Collaborating with Computer Science faculty and Media Arts faculty to maintain a rigorous curriculum.
  • Service on faculty committees.
  • Preparing outcomes assessment reports and strategic planning documents.
  • Planning events for current and prospective students.
  • Planning curriculum and technology updates as needed.
  • Representing the program in open house events and recruitment events.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Individuals should demonstrate consistent scholarly/creative activity in game development. Active experience with the game industry is preferred.
  • Applicants should have 2 or more years of experience practicing game programming with expertise in code patterns and production techniques critical to game development.
  • Some preferred specific desired areas of expertise may include:
    • Unity
    • Unreal
    • CryEngine Development
    • C# Scripting for Development of console, web, and mobile devices.
  • The candidate may also be familiar with technical art pipelines in level, design, particle effects, animation, event scripting, lighting, and shader systems within a game environment.
  • Preferred candidates will have additional experience with other gaming engines and in other platforms for Unity development, such as virtual reality or augmented reality and/or have experience developing/publishing tabletop games and who can teach tabletop game development.
  • Strong administrative skills and collaborative style are needed. Demonstrated ability to lead technologists, artists, and designers on team projects preferred.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

  • Graduate Degree (or equivalent professional experience) in game design and game programming related fields such as game design, computer science, computer programming, and/or interactive design.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
