Job Summary

The Assistant Sailing Coach will be responsible for all assisting the head coach in all aspects of the development and administration of a competitive varsity collegiate sailing program. The program will be conducted in accordance with all Jacksonville University, Intercollegiate Sailing (ICSA) rules, regulations and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Budgeting and accounting for the team’s finances
  • Recruiting student athletes for the Varsity Sailing Team
  • Planning and implementing team practices and regattas
  • Developing competition-specific sailing skills in a professional, safe, and responsible manner
  • Hosting events related to the Varsity Sailing Team
  • Maintenance of the fleet of sailboats, powerboats and facilities
  • Other related duties related to the growth of sailing at Jacksonville University

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of current Racing Rules of Sailing
  • Knowledge of the College Sailing Procedural Rules
  • Advanced College Dinghy Sailing and Coaching Skills
  • Motor/Coach Boat operation
  • Ability to travel and work on weekends

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

  • US Sailing Level 1 or 2
  • Red Cross CPR/First Aid
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum 2 years coaching experience

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to drive Small Coach Boats and Sail Small Boats at a high level
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
