Professor Edgard Leite was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1961. He received his PhD in History from the Fluminense Federal University in 1995. His first book, Political Parties in Brazil, was published in 1988. Since then has published over 15 books, including “Notórios Rebeldes, a Expulsão da Companhia de Jesus da America Portuguesa "(Madrid, 2000), ”Emancipação, Emancipações, a Libertação dos Judeus no Ocidente, 1776- 1897 "(Rio de Janeiro, 2012) and “Leituras Infinitas: Instante e Eternidade na Literatura Judaica, de Jó a Yohanam Ben Zakkai "(Rio de Janeiro, 2015). Edgard Leite published more than hundred articles in specialized magazines.
He currently works as Director of the Indian Studies Program (PEIND) at Rio de Janeiro State University, Executive Director of the Center for Jewish History and Culture (CHCJ) (Rio de Janeiro). Director of Rio de Janeiro History of Religions and Religiosity Center of The National Association of History. He is an Associate Professor at the Rio de Janeiro State University and the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. In 2013 he was elected a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy.
