A professional student vocal ensembleWho we are

The Jacksonville University Singers are a professional student vocal ensemble maintaining a robust repertoire, a significant performance schedule, and an active, powerful presence in the community. Members are responsible for learning notes and rhythms on their own, reserving rehearsal time for music-making and ensemble-building.

The Jacksonville University Singers have performed in some of the world's most iconic venues including England's Canterbury Cathedral, La Madeline, Paris, and most recently, St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. They have also sung for conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, Florida Music Educators Association, College Music Society, and TEDx.

Repertoire. Tours. Events. What we sing

The Jacksonville University Singers perform an eclectic and challenging repertoire spanning the centuries and the globe including Renaissance polyphony, Baroque and Classical masterworks, folksongs, music theatre, jazz, pop, opera, and new music by living composers.

While not on tour, this ensemble regularly appears at University events including Homecoming, Black History Month and Women's History Month celebrations, graduations, “Lunch and Listens”, sports events, dedications, anniversaries, and more—characteristic of their name and identifiable by their JU-green scarves and ties.

University Singers PresentsNature & Nurture

University Singers welcomes skilled vocalists of all majors who are interested in exploring every style of music.

On the final concert of a season of "&", the University Singers explored the question of whether nature or nurture best explains human behavior. Following in the footsteps of philosophers, scientists, psychologists, and theologians across many centuries, the University Singers responded with selections such as the Song of Chile by JU Professor He Jianjun, The Heavens Are Telling from The Creation by F. Josef Haydn, Across the Empty Square by Ellen Gilson Voth, and Renouveau by Lili Boulanger. Perhaps the best answer is, "both".

University Singers PresentsTHIS Day

The Jacksonville University Singers led a concert at the St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City titled, "THIS Day". The concert was inspired by the words of the late Jacksonville University Chancellor, Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinnea passionate musician, teacher, and leaderwho believed with her heart and hands that life is about giving back.

The selections for this concert therefore highlighted the human experience in the anticipation of hope, the inevitability of struggle, the need for reflection, the power of solidarity, and the challenge of action.

"University Singers provides a challenging repertoire that pushes you, not only as a vocalist and as a musician, but as a team member. The environment calls you to go beyond yourself, where you must choose daily to bring music to life."
