Mark Maan Alarbi, DDS, CECSMO, CAGS, ABO
Dean and Program Director, Associate Professor
Dr. Alarbi obtained his dental degree from the University of Tishreen, Syria in 1996 and served as a part-time assistant professor in the Removable Prosthetics department. In 2002 he received his Specialty Certification in Orthodontics and Dento-Facial Orthopedics (CECSMO) from the University of Aix-Marseille II. He relocated to Florida to join the JU Faculty in July 2003 when he was engaged in private practice in Marseille. He then obtained a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies in Orthodontics in 2009. Dr. Alarbi is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and a current member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontists. He is a former member of the French Society of Dento-Facial Orthopedists and the French Society of Bioprogressive Orthodontics. He is currently an active member in many local, state, and national orthodontic professional societies.

John Rumble, DDS
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Rumble obtained his dental degree from the University of Tennessee in 1955 and completed his specialty training there in 1959. After being on faculty there for a few years; and after a stint in the armed forces, Dr. Rumble opted for private practice and relocated back to Jacksonville. After joining the JU faculty on a part time basis in 2004, he recently retired from private practice and has now come full circle back to full time academics. Dr. Rumble is an active member of many local, state, regional and national orthodontic societies.

John Sheridan, DDS

Clinical Associate Professor
Dr. Sheridan received his dental degree from Loyola University of the South in 1965. He then completed his orthodontic residency at Baylor School of Dentistry in 1967. From that point until 1981 Dr. Sheridan maintained a part time private practice in Shreveport while teaching part time at LSU. Displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 he found his way to Jacksonville University. Dr Sheridan has had over fifty articles published, lectures frequently on the national and international circuits, has written two texts, and has contributed chapters to several others. A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, he is also the Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics and an Assistant to the Editor of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Functional Orthopedics.


Daniel Judge, DMD
Clinical Associate Professor
Dr. Judge received his dental degree from Tufts University, graduating Cum Laude in 1975. He then pursued is orthodontic studies at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry, graduating in 1977. Dr. Judge practiced in his home town of Easton, Massachusetts for 30 years before moving to Florida. He has been a member of numerous professional societies over his distinguished career.

Cristiana Vieira de Araujo DDS, MS
Director of Fellowship 
Dr. Araujo obtained her dental degree from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Minas Gerais (PUC-MG), Brazil in 2005. In 2009, she received her Specialty Certification in Orthodontics and Master Degree in Dental Science at the Center for Advanced Dental Education at Saint Louis University. Prior to joining the JU faculty in 2011, she was in private practice in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She is a member of the Brazilian Orthodontic Association (ABO) and an active member of many national and regional orthodontic societies.

Xingzhong (John) Zhang, DDS, MSD, PhD, Diplomate of ABO
Associate Professor of Orthodontics 
Dr. Zhang received his dental degree from the Beijing Medical University (BMU) in China in 1991. He completed his four-year post-doctoral orthodontic training and earned his PhD in Orthodontics at BMU in 1995. After his graduation, he served as a full-time assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics at BMU from 1995 to 2000. From 2000 to 2002, he worked as a research associate at Bolton-Brush Growth Study Center of the Department of Orthodontics at Case Western Reserve University. Afterwards, he moved back to Beijing and served as an associate professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Peking University from 2003 to 2007. Prior to joining JU School of Orthodontics, Dr. Zhang also completed an orthodontic residency at Case Western Reserve University in 2010 and received his Master of Science in Dentistry. Dr. Zhang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists.

Gaby El Bahri, DDS
Assistant Professor
Dr. Bahri received his dental degree from Saint Joseph University, Beirut, Lebanon in 1982. He continued with his dental education in France receiving a certificate in Fixed Prosthetics from the University Rene Descartes in 1985.
In 1987, he completed his training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from the University of Paris VII. Dr. Bahri has been in the private practice of Orthodontics in Jacksonville since 1991. He has been with JU since the program's inception in 2003.


William Swigler, DDS
Assistant Professor
Dr. William Swigler attended Emory University and the received both his Dental Degree and Orthodontic Specialty Certification from Emory Dental School in 1977 and 1979 respectively. He then relocated to Stuart, Fl. where he has practiced since then. Dr. Swigler is an active member of many Local, State, and National Dental and Orthodontic Societies. In addition, he is presently involved with a local chapter of the Seattle Study Club. His special areas of interest are adult and multidisciplinary orthodontics. He joined the staff of JU in August of 2009.


Peter S. Vig, DDS, PhD, JD
Director of Research, Professor
Dr. Vig obtained his dental degree from Sydney University, Australia, his PhD and orthodontic training from London University and JD from West Virginia University. He was professor of orthodontics at UNC, professor and chair at the University of Michigan and Pittsburgh, where he was Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education. Subsequently, he became chairman of Health Services Research at Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He was the Principal Investigator on several National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Grants and published over 200 papers, abstracts and chapters. He has acted as a member of several NIH Study Sections reviewing research grant applications and as a scientific reviewer for a number of national and international journals. He is a past president of the Craniofacial Biology Group of the International Association of Dental Research and the recipient of various academic honors in the USA and Europe.
