Yes, orientation is required for incoming freshmen.  For students entering in the Fall, you can choose to attend one summer session. The 2015 Orientation dates are June 15th-16th, July 13th-14th and July 17th-18th.


2. What should I expect at Orientation?

Here is the tentative schedule:

The second day could wrap up as early as 3:00pm. The Registrar's Office, Financial Aid Office, and Bursar's Office will be open for walk-ins or appointments until 5:00pm.​

3. Do I have to stay on campus?

Yes!  We promise you will have fun!  Even if you are a Jacksonville native and plan to live at home with your parents, you should stay on campus during the summer orientation session. This is a great opportunity for you to make some new friends and get a feel the traditional residence hall rooms.

4. Where should my family stay?

We are currently offering an on campus stay for family members on a first come, first serve basis. Space is limited. Parents should bring clothing for warm weather!  Please also bring your basic toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.). You will need to bring a pillow, but we'll provide the other linens and bath towels.
If family members are unable to reside on campus, the Jacksonvi​lle University partner is the Courtyard by Marriott, Jacksonville-I-295 East Beltway hotel. For more information please review their fact sheet:

5. Will someone pick me up from the airport?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide transportation to and from the airport. You will be able to grab a taxi outside the baggage claim area. Please ask the taxi driver to take you directly to Jacksonville University and once you enter campus, ask them to drop you off at Oak Hall. Please view our campus map​. There will also be a person available in the Welcome Center at the front entrance of campus to provide you with directions, if necessary.


6. If I can't get a flight out on the second day of orientation, can I stay an additional night on campus?

Yes, but an additional fee may be assessed to cover your food and housing costs. Please contact the Student Solutions Center to make these special accommodations at 

7. Can I arrive a day early?​

Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate these requests.

8. What should I pack for summer Orientation?

Welcome to hot and sunny FL!  

You should definitely pack a pair of flip flops and clothing for warm weather!  Please also bring your basic toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.). You will need to bring a pillow, but we'll provide the other linens and bath towels.  You may want to bring a beach towel and swim attire for the pool – just in case we make it there the evening on the first day of the sessions. 

9. Should transfer students attend one of the summer orientation sessions or the Dolphin Express session in August?

This is a personal preference. If your goal is to have a traditional college student experience, we would recommend attending one of the summer sessions.  The summer sessions are heavily focused on helping you meet classmates and current students, in addition to taking care of your essential needs and learning about our resources. If you are simply looking for more information about the resources we offer, you should come to Dolphin Express. 

By the way, you are only a college student once in your life! JU recommends that you make the most of it!

10. If I am no longer able to attend the summer orientation session, can I get a refund?

If you cancel prior to June 1st for the June session or July 1st for the July session, you can get a refund.  Please contact us directly at​

11. In August, when can I move in?

Move-in for new students is Friday, August 21st. Residential Life will notify you of your designated move-in time. 

12. When should family members plan to depart?

For the summer orientation sessions, family members will be heavily involved. Families should plan to wrap up around the same time as the student. All sessions will conclude at 3pm on Day 2 of each session.

In August, activities for family members will wrap-up on Friday afternoon.
