Yes, orientation is mandatory.  For students entering in the Fall, you can choose to attend one summer session. The 2016 Orientation dates are July 18th-19th and July 22nd-23rd.

The summer sessions are heavily focused on helping you meet classmates and current students, in addition to taking care of your essential needs and learning about our resources.​​

​​2. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT ORIENTATION?

Here is the tentative schedule:

The second day could wrap up as early as 3:00pm. The Registrar's Office, Financial Aid Office, and Bursar's Office will be open for walk-ins or appointments until 5:00pm.

3. Do I have to stay on campus?

Yes!  We promise you will have fun!  Even if you are a Jacksonville native and plan to live at home with your parents, you should stay on campus during the summer orientation session. This is a great opportunity for you to make some new friends and get a feel the traditional residence hall rooms.

4. Where should my family stay?

5. Will someone pick me up from the airport?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide transportation to and from the airport. You will be able to grab a taxi outside the baggage claim area. Please ask the taxi driver to take you directly to Jacksonville University. There will be a person available in the Welcome Center at the front entrance of campus to provide you with directions. 

​6. Can I arrive a day early or leave a day later?​

Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate these requests.

7. What should I pack for summer Orientation?

Welcome to hot and sunny FL!  

You should definitely pack a pair of flip flops and clothing for warm weather!  Please also bring your basic toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.). You will need to bring a pillow, but we'll provide the other linens and bath towels.  You may want to bring a beach towel and swim attire for the pool – just in case we make it there the evening on the first day of the sessions.

9. WHEN SHOULD I COME FOR THE START OF SCHOOL?

IMPORTANT DATES

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION: Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016- Thursday, August 25th, 2016

MOVE-IN DAY: Friday, August 26th, 2016

WEEKEND OF WELCOME (Students): Friday, August 26th – Sunday, August 28th

WEEKEND OF WELCOME (Families): Friday, August 26th – Saturday, August 27th

FIRST DAY OF CLASSES: Monday, August 29th, 2016​​

10. WHAT IS WEEKEND OF WELCOME? 

 Weekend of Welcome will be your first official weekend on campus as a Jacksonville University student.  During the Weekend of Welcome​ we will offer move-in assistance to your assigned residence hall along with many fun and educational activities to help you meet people and get familiar with the campus before the start of the semester.

11.  HOW MUCH DOES ORIENTATION REGISTRATION COST? 

The cost is $75 per student, which covers meals and staying on campus.  Additional parents/family members attending will be $50 per guest.  Students will stay in one of our residence halls during Summer Orientation, while parents and family members will need to reserve a hotel room in the area.  ​
