Allen Havens, (BM Performance/Jazz Emphasis, '11) student of Prof. John Ricci, was
accepted with scholarship into the Graduate Jazz Studies program at UT
Knoxville. Allen marks the second JU
saxophone major (after Nicholas Marchese,
BM Music Education '10) from
professor Ricci’s studio to pursue post-graduate studies in music.
Greg Bosworth (BFA Music Theatre,’10) is well-remembered for his star turns in JU’s productions of Oklahoma! (2008), Ragtime (2008), Cosi fan tutte (2009), and Chess (2010), and as the drummer for the pop/punk band Inside the Target Car, whose debut album Good Missiles, Good Manners, Good Night was the first release of JU’s own Dolphinium Records. Greg
hit the ground running after graduation, in his new adopted hometown,
Atlanta. After creating the role of Ronald Allen in the World Premier
of I Dream, a musical based on the life of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr., Greg took a “break” by touring through Argentina, Uruguay and
Paraguay with ArtSpot, promoting English-speaking theatre and culture. Greg most recently starred as Moritz Steifel in the Atlanta premier of Spring Awakening,
where he and the show racked up rave reviews.James (Steve) Ellis (BA in Music ’10) assumed leadership as
the contemporary worship leader in October of 2010 Troy United Methodist Church
in Troy, TX. As of July
2011, he has assumed the position of Director of Music. He contacted us recently to say, “I wanted to tell you that I was able to get a job in the area that I
wanted to work in when I originally set out to finish a music degree at JU.” Congratulations!
Samuel Welsh (BM Piano Performance, '07) is finishing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado where he won a grant to travel to France to study Maurice Ravel’s Valse nobles et sentimantales (which he performed on his senior recital at JU) and to prepare a new edititon of the work based upon Ravel’s own corrections. Sam has performed with the Sigmund Romberg Orchestra on national tours, and has a large class of piano students in Boulder. In addition to a Bachelor of Music degree from Jacksonville University, Sam holds the Master of Music Degree from Ithaca College in New York.
