DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE ARTSThe
study of theatre is vital to the liberal arts component of a university
education. The study of theatre enhances communications skills, creative and
critical thinking, cultural awareness, and broadens a student's knowledge of
literature and history.
DEGREES OFFERED
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre Arts
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is a four-year comprehensive program
designed to prepare students majoring in Theatre Arts for advanced studies in
theatre or related fields and for students seeking professional and
non-professional work in theatre. An audition or portfolio review is required
for entry into the BA program and is required for scholarship consideration.
Students will be evaluated on an annual basis to determine progress in the
pursuit of their degree and to remain in good standing within their program.
MINOR OFFERED
THEATRE AUDITIONS, PLACEMENT AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Auditions are required in person and are conducted on College of Fine
Arts scheduled audition dates. Those who cannot appear in person must submit a
video-recorded performance. Auditions are used to determine a student's level of
placement and possible theatre scholarships and awards. Audition appointments
may be arranged with the Office of Admissions.
Prospective theatre students are required to
audition or have a portfolio review for acceptance as a BA Theatre Arts
major. Any consideration for eligibility and scholarship recommendation is based
upon the audition process. Students transferring into the program must audition
or have a portfolio review prior to advising to determine placement and
advising.
