From JU Athletics
The Jacksonville University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the addition of Donnie Horner, Associate AD for Development effective Oct. 22, 2012.
Donnie will be working primarily to assist Director of Athletics, Brad Edwards along with Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Michael Howland, with developing fund raising strategies and growing private support for the athletics department to fund capital priorities and endowments.
Additionally Donnie will help coordinate day-to-day activities with the Jacksonville University Athletics Association, the JU Basketball Tip-Off Club, golf fund raisers, and other external fund raising and community engagement activities.
Most recently, Donnie has served as Vice President of Business Development for Main Ocean Port Services in Jacksonville. In this role he was responsible for cultivating client relationships and served ports of Jacksonville, Fernandina, Brunswick and Savannah, Ga. and expansion to Destin, Fla., Mobile, Ala. and New Orleans. Prior to that, he served as a Public Communications Officer for Mayor Alvin Brown where he organized and coordinated Mayoral press conferences and official speaking engagements and from 2009 to 2011, he served as a Naval Warfare Officer for the United States Navy.
Donnie is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He was a four-year varsity letter winner in ice hockey, was an Academic All-American, was awarded the league Sportsmanship Award in 2007 – 2008, was voted to the league All-Star Team in 2007 – 2008, and was selected to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division-I National All-Star Team. Donnie also was a member of the Naval Academy varsity Baseball team. Additionally, he was honored as the Male Athlete of the Year Award, Class of 2008 for the U. S. Naval Academy and won the Dr. Charles H. Coates Award for Military Sociology.
Donnie also has a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with Management Concentration from Jacksonville University and enjoys affiliations with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Board of Federal Activism, the Jacksonville University Alumni Board of Governors, the Jacksonville Jaguars Advocacy Group, the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce: Downtown Council & North Council, and the Propeller Club of the United States.
He is the son of Dr. Donnie Horner, the Director of Davis Leadership Center, Davis Chair of Leadership and Professor of Management at the JU Davis College of Business
