Gordon Bass has been serving as the Director of Campus Security at Jacksonville University since September 2011. He came to JU after serving as the Undersheriff of Nassau County, Florida and after an established career in law enforcement, retiring at the appointed rank of Director from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in Jacksonville, Florida.
As director of Campus Security, Bass is directly responsible for all aspects of campus safety, promoting asecure living and learning environment for the 3,400 students and more than 500 employees at JU. Director Bass' main concern is providing a safe and secure enviroment byworking closely with administration to ensure the safety of every individual on campus.
Prior to his current post in Nassau County, Bass served in the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for 34 years in various positions, including director of the Department of Corrections, chief of the Detective Division, chief of the Community Affairs Division, assistant chief of the Patrol Division and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
Bass possesses dual Master of Arts degrees from Webster University, one of which is in Security Management, and is a graduate of the 200th session of the FBI National Academy. Bass is a graduate of Leadership Jacksonville, and has served on the board of the Sulzbacher Center. Bass has close ties to the University, as two of his three children are alumni.
